Nexify was tasked with giving a government department’s Homepage a facelift based on responsive website design (RWD). Through its homepage, the department disseminates information about itself and its initiatives to the public. Our challenge was to enable smooth content migration for more than 6,000 web pages contributed by more than 60 content owners from all Divisions. We were also tasked with replacing its previous Web Content Management System (WCMS) by 2018 with an agile solution capable of accommodating the massive amount of content.
In view of the website’s complexity and large amount of content, we proposed replacing the Homepage’s WCMS with TeamSite. This enabled the department Homepage Support Team to sign into the system, create, update and delete content, while also allowing the Team to generate and publish web pages to WCH for public access.
Our data conversion process used Nexify proprietary programs to convert individual pages from Documentum into TeamSite templates. Once the content was converted, these were imported onto TeamSite and validated with input from the department. We then conducted a parallel run as a final test of usability before relaunch.
With a more modern look and agile underlying design, the website better reflects the professional image of the department. The streamlined content publication process enables information to be added efficiently and effectively, while the improved and unified website design facilitates the public in finding important information.
By conforming to W3C WCAG 2.0 AA standards, the website also meets web accessibility requirements for persons with disabilities. Finally, the redesign is optimised for screen sizes on mobile devices, enabling the department Homepage to reach an even wider audience.
